Cactus Garden
In the village of Guatiza, Cactus Garden is located, one of the seven Centers of Art, Culture, and Tourism in Lanzarote. It was inaugurated in 1990 and is surrounded by endless prickly pear plantations. This unusual creation was built on an old volcanic ash quarry and spans over 5,000 square meters, featuring 1,420 species of cacti with a total of 9,700 different plants.
Its architectural design is reminiscent of a Roman amphitheater, encouraging visitors to stroll along its terraces and planters while exploring the variety of shapes and colors of the cacti. César Manrique managed to create a unique space full of personality.
From a distance, a spectacular green metal sculpture resembling an enormous cactus can be seen, welcoming visitors to the site. The entrance, crafted with carved stone, invites visitors to enter through its sinuous, pleasant curves. Also noteworthy are the original shop located inside, the café-bar's decoration, and many architectural details typical of Manrique's style.
