Accesible Beaches in Costa Teguise
Playa de las Cucharas, Playa Bastian and Playa los Charcos in Costa Teguise are the first beaches in the Canary Islands to be awarded certificates approving their ‘universal accessibility’.
The factors taken into consideration for the award are wheelchair access, cleanliness of the beach, the maintenance of facilities and the presence of a lifeguard to provide first aid and to monitor those enjoying the beach.
Also included are grants, events and activities, projects and programs that can be done on the beach.
Many improvements have been made to improve the accessibility of these beaches to the public including the addition of wheelchair ramps and the painting of blue lines on the access route to demonstrate where the beach ends for those who are visually impaired. Easier access to the toilets, showers and foot baths have also been introduced.
