Mozaga
Wine and Tradition
Administratively, Mozaga is a very unique locality, as its land is divided between the municipalities of Teguise and San Bartolomé. Mozaga is part of La Geria, a very important wine-producing area for the creation of Lanzarote’s Denomination of Origin wine, one of the island’s culinary treasures. The landscape of La Geria is completely atypical and impressive; the malpaís (badlands) has transformed into a fertile wine-growing region, thanks to the ingenuity of Lanzarote’s farmers, who dig deep holes in the earth, cover them with picón (volcanic ash) or rofe, and then plant their vines, protecting them from the strong winds with semicircular stone walls. In Mozaga, you’ll find many wineries, traditional houses, rural tourism, and charming corners, such as the small church of Nuestra Señora de la Peña.
